How to Network
Getting Ready!
Pre-Event Resources, we’re here to foster long-term and meaningful connections.
How to network
Bring a friend networking
Invite a friend or fellow immigrant to the event to ease social interactions and provide support.
Use each other’s strengths and connections and practice introducing each other with enthusiasm. It’s so much easier to talk about your friend and highlight their strengths and more often the person you made the introduction will ask who you are or have your buddy introduce you as well.
Create a networking circle
Form or join small networking circles with individuals from diverse backgrounds and come together to the Career Expo for support.
Prepare your one-liner pitch
Write a concise introduction that highlights your skills, experience, and passion. For example: Or “I’m a recent graduate of [field] with a strong focus on [key skills], I’m passionate about [interest] and I’m eager to contribute to [specific goal].” OR “I bring [X years] of experience in [industry] with a strong focus on [key skills], and I’m eager to contribute to [specific goal].”
Remember networking is a conversation, ask questions about the other person who you have introduced yourself to, not just about the company they are representing, ask about their time at the company and their day.
Everyone is nervous, so enjoy yourself, don’t worry too much, we’re here to help and you can learn how to network at one of our sessions at the expo.
